🎤 Live, from an Indonesian Minister
Get the key insights below ⬇️
On February 20, 2025, Bloomberg Technoz hosted its annual Economic Outlook 2025 forum in Jakarta.
This high-level event brought together policymakers, economists, and business leaders to discuss strategies for navigating global and domestic economic uncertainty.
I had the privilege of being among the invited guests.
🔑 Key Themes & Insights
🔹 Indonesia’s Economic Challenges in 2025 – Slower growth, weaker household consumption, and a contracting manufacturing sector amid global geopolitical tensions and trade wars.
🔹 Impact of U.S. Economic Policies – Indonesia must prepare for shifts in U.S. trade and monetary policies under the new administration.
🔹 Top Experts & Thought Leaders, among them:
Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan – Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, former four-star Army general.
Bambang Brodjonegoro – Former Minister of Research & Technology, now Special Advisor to the President.
To sustain economic growth in 2025, the government is focusing on
🍽️ Free Nutritious Meals Program – A large-scale initiative to boost consumption and create jobs.
🏡 3 Million Homes Program – A major push in housing, construction, and industries like steel.
These 2 programs are expected to stimulate growth through consumption and investment.
As Bambang Brodjonegoro emphasized:
âś… New growth drivers are needed, and these two initiatives can play a crucial role.
âś… Effective planning and execution are essential for real impact.
âś… The private sector must play a key role, especially in housing development.
To fully grasp the significance of these initiatives, it helps to break down Indonesia’s 5% GDP growth:
📌 2.5% comes from domestic consumption.
📌 1.5% from Gross Fixed Capital Formation (investment).
📌 0.3% from government spending.
📌 0.7% from other factors.
This explains why the government is doubling down on stimulating domestic consumption.
🏛️ Other Key Discussions
đź’ˇ The Middle-Income Trap and how to avoid it.
đź”— Capturing more value by focusing on downstream production.
📉 The debate around the shrinking middle class – is it real, or just a statistical illusion?
💰 Budget reallocations & spending cuts – interpretation depends on political perspectives.
🏦 Danantara: Indonesia’s new Sovereign Wealth Fund – with $900B+ in assets under management.
For me, Bambang Brodjonegoro’s keynote was a masterclass in economic strategy.
📌 Indonesia’s economic leadership demonstrates deep expertise and long-term vision.
That’s why I see Indonesia with a bright future and strong investment potential.
