Robotics –
This week we share pictures we took at Global Industrie 2025 Exhibition that took place in Lyon, France from March 11 to 14, 2025.
Robotics is a personal favorite as I (Ilann Amram) completed my engineering degree in a robotics research center, in Singapore, in 1996.
We saw some leading companies at Global Industrie 2025.
FANUC, established in 1956 as part of Fujitsu and becoming independent in 1972, is a leading Japanese manufacturer of industrial automation equipment, including robots and CNC systems. FANUC employs over 8,000 people globally and generates approximately 5.4 billion USD in annual revenue.
KUKA, founded in 1898 in Germany, is a leading global supplier of intelligent automation solutions, specializing in industrial robots and factory automation systems. KUKA delivered its first industrial robot, FAMULUS, in 1973. In 2016, KUKA was acquired by the Chinese Midea Group, marking a significant milestone in its history. The company employs approximately 15,000 people worldwide and generates annual revenue of around 4.3 billion USD.
IGM Robotersysteme GmbH, founded in 1967 in Austria, is a specialized manufacturer of robotic welding and cutting systems, renowned for its expertise in industrial automation. We spent more than 15 minutes talking Nao, a little robot. This awesome robot was able to entertain us and talk to us thanks to a built-in artificial intelligence. It was even able to recognize the language when our cofounder Sandyani talked to it in Bahasa (Indonesian)!
This little robot Nao is made by a French company called Aldebaran.
Aldebaran, founded in 2005 by Bruno Maisonnier in Paris, France, is a pioneering company in humanoid robotics, renowned for developing interactive robots for education, healthcare, and research. It was acquired by Japan’s SoftBank Group in 2015, and later sold to Germany’s United Robotics Group in 2022. Aldebaran employs approximately 250 people, primarily in its Paris headquarters, and generates an estimated annual revenue of 30 million USD. The company’s iconic robot, NAO, a 58-cm tall programmable humanoid, has become a global standard in education and research, assisting with tasks like autism therapy and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) learning.
