French President Macron –
Visit to Indonesia –
26 MoUs –
Last week, French President Emmanuel Macron made a historic state visit to Indonesia.
Hosted by President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta on May 28, the visit celebrated 75 years of diplomatic relations and aimed to deepen cooperation in defense, trade, and culture.
The warm ceremonial reception at Istana Merdeka and a joint visit to Borobudur Temple highlighted the strengthening Indonesia-France partnership.
Indonesia and France signed 26 strategic Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering various sectors. Key agreements include:
⚔️ Defense: A letter of intent for Indonesia to procure French-made Rafale fighter jets and Scorpène Evolved submarines, supporting military modernization and technology transfer.
🌴 Sustainable Forestry *: Agreements to promote sustainable forestry practices, aligning with the environmental goals of both nations.
🎼 A new initiative to boost cultural ties, announced at Borobudur, focusing on cultural heritage, films, music, and textiles.
🏭 Economic and Trade Agreements worth approximately $11 billion, covering trade, investment, energy transition, and critical minerals like nickel.
🕊️ Global Stability and Security Commitments to support a two-state solution for the Israel-Palestine conflict, uphold sovereignty, and promote peaceful resolutions to global issues like Ukraine.
Additional Agreements in agriculture, disaster management, transport, and education, including Indonesia’s OECD membership support and EU-CEPA trade acceleration.
These 26 MoUs reflect a robust commitment to a long-term strategic partnership, fostering collaboration.
At CINTASIA, our mission is to bridge business between France and Indonesia, so we are thrilled about this historic state visit.
Leading French CAC40 companies (Dassault, Thales, Safran, Naval, Eramet, Airbus, Danone, Alstom, Total, Lesaffre, …) were prominently discussed during this visit, showcasing their contributions to the 26 MoUs signed.
This is a significant step forward.
However, hundreds of smaller French enterprises (SMEs) also offer valuable solutions for the Indonesian market.
These businesses are vital to deepening the French-Indonesian partnership.
For this to happen:
Indonesia should streamline regulations to facilitate SME market entry, reducing bureaucratic hurdles and fostering a welcoming environment.
France must better allocate resources, such as export financing and grants, to support SMEs in entering the Indonesian market.
If you are a foreign SME interested in the Indonesian market, contact us CINTASIA.
We’ll guide you to enter this dynamic market successfully.
PS: About sustainable forestry, check Fair Grade Forests and Pierre Tarik ELIAS (Tek4Good 🌏 IndoPacifique), we’ll soon publish an article about them.
