Adaro, the giant Indonesian coal company, has diversified into Primary Aluminium.
Its aluminium smelter project is expected to start first pot production before the end of 2025.
The smelter has three phases of each half million ton of metal produced per year. So total capacity will be 1,5 million ton per year.
A smelter input is alumina (Al2O3) and the output is pure aluminium metal.
It is surprising and a pity that Indonesia is still a net importer of alumina while it has one of the biggest reserve of bauxite in the world.
Bauxite is the ore that is refined into alumina (powder), which is smelted into metal (aluminium).
